14 killed due to heavy rains, landslide during two days in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PESHAWAR (92 News) - As many as 14 people were killed and 10 others injured due to heavy rains and landslide during two days in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, increasing the death toll to 35.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), 15 houses were completely destroyed while 70 houses were partially damaged.

In Lower Dir, two women and as many children died when the roof of their house collapsed. In Matta, two were killed when an avalanche fell on a house. In Upper Dir, three people including two girls died in different rain-related incidents.

In Tank, two people died when their vehicle was washed away by floodwater. In Leepa Valley, highway was closed due to landslide. Rescue activities of the Pak Army are continuing in the affected areas. About 60 vehicles were rescued in an operation carried out at Khunjrab Pass.

In Chitral, educational institutions were closed due to heavy rains until April 17. Tourists are facing problems due to snowfall and landslide in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper areas of Kashmir. Over 20,000 tourists are currently present in Neelum Valley.

In Balochistan, heavy rains wreaked havoc and destroyed infrastructure besides causing huge losses. Several villages have been inundated by rainwater in Pishin, Harnai, Loralai and Gwadar. Seven people have been killed by lightning and roof-collapse incidents across the province.

Links with Chaghi, Naseerabad and Harnai have been disrupted due to closure of several roads. The power supply continued disrupted during the last 15 hours. In Quetta and other affected areas, rain and urban flood emergency has been declared.
