ECP reserves verdict on PTI's foreign funding case

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) reserved the verdict on PTI's foreign funding case on Tuesday.

A three-member bench of the ECP headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja heard the case. Petitioner Akbar S Babar, financial expert Arsalan Wardag and Shah Khawar from the PTI appeared before the ECP.

Giving the reply, Akbar S Babar's financial expert Arsalan Wardag said that the PTI had not disclosed the sources of funds received from many foreign countries. According to the claim, the record of the accounts opened at the local level should be sought. “The PTI did not respond to 41 bank accounts. The PTI LLC is not an agent of the PTI. It is a subsidiary company in the United States. PTI officials are the owners of UK companies. The public record of owners of companies in other countries is unknown.”

Meanwhile, Akbar S Babar himself came to the rostrum and said that he had no personal objection to the case. “If the Election Commission had not taken interest, the scrutiny would have continued for another four years. The CEC said that it was a matter of national interest. Cases of other parties will be finalized soon.”

The PTI foreign funding case was tried for seven years and seven months. The scrutiny committee had submitted its report to the Election Commission. Anwar Mansoor had appeared on behalf of the PTI as a lawyer. The PTI foreign funding case was filed in the Election Commission in November 2014.
