Federal cabinet restores Saturday's holiday, cuts petrol for ministers, govt employees by 40%

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The federal cabinet on Tuesday restored the holiday for Saturday and cut the petrol for ministers and government employees by 40 percent.

However, the government could not decide on closure of markets at 7pm. The cabinet's sub-committee will give the final suggestions after consultations with traders. The cabinet members also proposed to do work from home for one day. The cabinet also decided to launch a campaign for saving electricity.

Talking to the media, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said that Saturday's holiday will save US$386 million annually. She said that maximum official meetings will be held virtually.

Marriyum Aurangzeb said that some important decisions have been made keeping in view the unusual situation.

She said that the government had banned purchasing of every type of vehicles for government functionaries. "Moreover, the cabinet has banned the medical treatment of the government authorities abroad," she added.
