FM Qureshi visits Sri Lankan HC, offers condolence on Easter attacks

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mehmood Qureshi visited Sri Lankan High Commission on Friday to offer condolence over the loss of precious lives in terrorist attacks in the island country. During the visit, the minister wrote a condolence message on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan in Visitors’ Book at the High Commission. Condemning the suicide attacks on the occasion of Easter, Qureshi said, “Pakistan expresses solidarity with its friendly country Sri Lanka and is standing by it in this difficult moment.” He asserted that Pakistan is ready to provide any assistant to Sri Lanka. Easter Day bomb blasts at three Sri Lankan churches and three hotels killed more than 250 people and wounded over 500 including foreigners. After the visit, speaking to the journalists outside the Sri Lankan High Commission, the minister expressed sorrow over the loss of precious lives in Easter attack. “We have regret on the terrorist incident. Terrorism is international challenge; however, we all have to combat with this challenge.” He said that anything pronounce about who is behind the Sri Lankan attack will be earlier before time. He also announced that he will visit Sri Lanka after the holy month of Ramadan. FM Qureshi mentioned that the previous government could not implement on the National Action Plan (NAP) properly so the incumbent government will try to key progress on the NAP. Referring to the Pulwama attack, he said that India blamed on Pakistan for Pulwama attack and tried to demoralize Pakistan.
Pakistan played role for peace, reconciliation process in Afghanistan: FM
Earlier today, Minister for Foreign Affairs (FM) Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Pakistan played a role for peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan. Addressing Investment conference, Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that the government is pursuing economic diplomacy for socio-economic development of the country. FM Qureshi said various steps have been taken to create a pro-investment environment, and it is time for entrepreneurs to take advantage of lucrative business opportunities in the country.
PTI government on foreign policy front
Highlighting achievements of the PTI government on foreign policy front, the minister said Pakistan played a role for peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan, took peace overtures towards India, including opening Kartarpur corridor, and reinvigorated relations with China, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Qatar, Malaysia and Iran.
Pakistan overcome its balance of payment issue
FM Qureshi said Pakistan secured financial assistance from friendly countries to overcome its balance of payment issue. He said agreement on second phase of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and signing of Free Trade Agreement with China will contribute significantly to socio-economic development of the country.
Saudi Arabia to invest $20bn investment in Pakistan and UAE
He said Saudi Arabia has committed twenty billion dollars investment in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Malaysia are also eyeing on investment in various sectors in the country. The foreign minister said ExxonMobil company has returned to Pakistan and has been engaged in exploration of energy resources. He said concerted efforts are being made to promote tourism, and new visa regime has been introduced to this effect.
