Nine more die as incessant rain wreaks havoc in Karachi, adjoining areas
KARACHI (92 News) – Nine more people were killed in different incidents, including electrocution, due to incessant rain in the city and adjoining areas on Tuesday.
The flash flood from the Lath Dam is heading towards the residential areas. Moreover, several huts have been washed away by the rainwater. The Pak Army teams have reached the affected areas and an operation is going on to rescue the people trapped in the rainwater.
Several low-lying areas, including Sarhjani Town and Taisar Road, were inundated by the rainwater. Several roads were destroyed in Sadr and Tariq Road. PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh reached the affected areas. People chanted slogans in favor of the Pak Army.
On the other hand, the power supply to the affected areas could not be restored. As a result, there was scarcity of clean drinking water in the areas affected by the rain which exposed the tall claims of the administration.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah visited different areas of the city. He directed the administration to immediately fill up the ditch on Tariq Road. He said that it had been rain since Monday.
All the concerned departments are busy disposing off the accumulated rainwater. The drains are being cleaned.
On the other hand, rain is continuing with intervals in Hyderabad since yesterday. Rainwater has accumulated in the streets and houses. About 200mm water was recorded in the city. In Badin, crops were destroyed in 200 villages due to a 50-foot crevice in the canal.
Due to flooding in Orangi Nullah water spilled out of the drain and entered in nearby houses. Dozens of houses in Pak Colony, Jumman Colony and Johar Colony affected with the water spill from drains.
Liaquatabad Underpass was filled with the rainwater and closed for the traffic due to the faulty drainage system of the underpass.
