ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The federal government has decided to review the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Bill 2023.

Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan told court that the law will be amended in consultation with the court.

Welcoming the proposal, Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial remarked that the government should deliberate on both laws and the court will also hold consultation in this regard.

During the hearing, CJP Umar Ata Bandial asked the attorney general what he wanted to say. The attorney general told court that the law also deals with several other matters. "We have two laws – SC Review of Order and Judgment Act and SC Practice and Procedure Act and both laws have same sections. The laws will be reviewed to avoid the mutual contradiction," he contended.

He said that the court will be consulted in other matters besides the two laws.

CJP Umar Ata Bandial welcomed the proposal and said that the court could ask the parliament to look into the matter for bringing harmony in both laws. "It is a matter of pleasure that the government and the parliament are amending the similar laws. The government should consult the SC while doing legislation with regard to the judiciary," he observed.

The court adjourned the hearing for a week.
