ISLAMABAD (92 News) - After failing to muster enough support from political parties, the federal government has deferred ‘indefinitely’ the matter of introducing the constitutional amendment bill in the Parliament, adjourning the Senate session sine die.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Irfan Siddiqui told the media outside the Parliament about the indefinite deferment of the constitutional amendment bill.

He said that it might take eight to 10 days to present the bill in the Parliament, claiming that the delay in presenting the bill was not a failure of the government.

He further claimed that there was no obstacle to the constitutional amendments, adding that the exact timing to present the bill had not been decided so far.

“The law requires a specific majority for constitutional amendments. If this majority is not achieved, it is not a cause for concern,” he stated.

“After consultations, including with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, it was agreed to wait for a few more days before proceeding with the amendments package,” he added.

The PML-N senator praised Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s positive response, stating: “There is no disagreement on any matter. Discussions took place in a constructive environment. This dialogue will continue to move forward.”

It is to be noted here that the Senate session that was scheduled to start at 12:30 pm today has been adjourned sine die.
