Hafeez Shaikh will preside ECC session today
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Adviser to Priem Minister on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh will preside meeting of Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), for the first time, of the Cabinet on Friday (today).
It is pertinent to mention here that after the resignation of former finance minister Asad Umar, for the first time, Hafeez Shaikh would preside over the ECC meeting.
During the ECC session, an 18-point agenda will be discussed. The issue of hike in prices of petroleum products would be one of the key points of the agenda. The ECC will decide the extent of hike in petroleum prices.
It was reported that a comprehensive new plan for Pakistan Steel Mills and a summery for appointment of an advisory consortium for the mill would be tabled in the meeting for consideration.
It also said that a summary of Rs 54 crore supplementary grant for National Savings Organizations would be presented the summary of supplementary grant for Oubjab Rangers would also be tabled ib the meeting.
On April 16, Prime Minister Imran Khan had reconstituted the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) and appointed his Advisor on Finance and Revenue Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh as its new chairman.
Major cabinet reshuffle: Hafeez Shaikh appointed as finance adviser
A major reshuffle has taken place in the federal cabinet as Dr Hafeez Shaikh appointed as finance adviser and Ijaz Sha was named for interior minister.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the portfolio of information minister has been taken away from Fawad Chaudhry and he has been named as the federal minister for science and technology.
Meanwhile, President Dr Arif Alvi has accepted the resignation of Asad Umar and a notification in this regard has been issued.
Minister of state for interior Shehryar Afridi has now been named the Minister for States and Frontier Regions (Safron). The PTI government has also announced a federal interior minister for the first time, with the portfolio going to Ijaz Ahmed Shah.
They further said that Muhammad Mian Soomro named for the minister for privatization.
Ghulam Sarwar Khan, who previously was the petroleum minister, has now been named the federal minister for aviation. It was reported that Prime Minister Imran Khan was not satisfied by the performance of the petroleum minister. The government has not yet announced his replacement.
On the other hand, Azam Swati nominated for the minister for parliamentary affairs and Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh finalized for the finance adviser.
