IHC fixes NAB’s plea for hearing against Zardari’s acquittal
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday fixed National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) plea against acquittal of former president Asif Ali Zadari in Polo Ground Reference for hearing.
Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) Divisional Bench will hear the case on April 18. However, the NAB had challenged the accountability court’s verdict of acquitting the former president in the polo ground reference.
A two-member bench of the IHC comprises of Chief Justice IHC Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Mian Gull Hassan Aurangzeb will hear the case.
The NAB had stated in its appeal that the trial court had no powers to acquit the accused in corruption case.
It may be mentioned here that the NAB had challenged the acquittal of Zardari by an accountability court in two references in 2014. The last hearing on NAB’s appeal was held on April 21, 2016.
The NAB had filed the polo-ground corruption reference in the Accountability Court in 2000, and implicated former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and spouse Asif Ali Zardari along with two former CDA chairmen Shafi Sehwani and Saeed Mehdi.
The former CDA chairmen were alleged to have constructed a polo ground in the Prime Minister House during Benazir Bhutto’s first term in office at the expense of public money.
NAB likely to file first reference against Zardari in Pink Residency case
Earlier, the NAB has prepared the first reference against Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) co-chairman and former president Asif Ali Zardari in Pink Residency case.
According to the reports, the key progress in fake accounts case and the anti-graft watchdog expected to file a first reference against Zardari next month in the case pertaining to his alleged malpractices and corruption in the Pink Residency case.
According to the sources, the reference will be filed in the accountability court of Islamabad after the approval of the NAB at its executive board meeting.
However, Asif Ali Zardari is main accused in a case pertaining to illegal allotment of 17 acres of land in the KDA Scheme in favour of M/S Pink Residency and others.
