ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected the plea to form the full court to hear the petitions against the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Bill, 2023.

The court also rejected the attorney general's plea to withdraw the stay order against the bill.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial observed that political matters have polluted the judicial atmosphere. "Political people does not want justice, but they want decisions of their choice. Wrong steps of the state institution cannot be ignored. Each institution is bound to implement the Supreme Court orders," he ruled.

The CJP remarked that this bench comprises of seven senior judges. "It is power of the chief justice to form the full court. The court had announced the same judgement in the Justice Faez Isa case. In the Iftikhar Chaudhary case, the court had declared that only the President can file the reference," he observed.

He observed that the federal list regarding the power of the legislation has some limitations. "The independent judiciary is the basic part of the constitution. Let us first understand what the law is and why it has been formed," he observed.

The court sought a reply from the political parties and lawyers organizations until May 8.

Earlier, the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Bill, 2023 had become a law after being passed by the National Assembly.

However, the president had returned the bill without his signature for reconsideration.
