No doubt Mansoor Ali Shah will be the next CJ: Bilawal

LAHORE: (92 News) - Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari says he has no doubt that the next chief justice will be Mansoor Ali Shah, adding that there should be no attempt to make the honourable judges of the Supreme Court controversial.

The PPP chairman said in a TV programme that both the current chief justice and the upcoming chief justice are honourable, adding there is a suggestion that the prerogative to appoint the chief justice should be returned to the prime minister.

“But we do not want any constitutional amendment to be made against which anyone would raise any objection. Judicial reforms are necessary for Pakistan, and there should be no objection to that,” he stated.

“It is impossible to pass the constitutional amendment without Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s consent,” he said, adding that a rough draft was presented to which the JUI had more objections than the PPP.

He said the PPP will send its draft to the JUI so that a unanimous draft could be prepared.

“Those who attacked military installations should be tried in military courts, but the PPP has been of the opinion from the beginning that it is not in favour of military courts. If the government considers it important to establish military courts, it should create a consensus and bring an amendment draft,” he emphasised.

He said the government should produce if it has evidence against the PTI founder regarding his involvement in the May 9 case, adding that the government cannot proceed without a constitutional amendment for the PTI founder’s military trial.
