Post-mortem report of Amir Masih confirms torture

LAHORE (92 News) – The post-mortem report of Amir Masih, who was killed under custody of police, confirmed the torture in police custody. Masih’s post-mortem report reveals torture marks on different parts of his body. According to the post-mortem report, there were torture marks on both of Masih’s hands and feet along with his back. The report further said his ribs were also broken. In CCTV footage surfaced on social media, two policemen can be seen dragging Masih into a hospital on a motorcycle. Later, the policemen can be seen bringing Masih out of the hospital in a wheelchair and putting him in a cab. The Punjab inspector-General took notice of the incident and removed the investigation officer Zeeshan and arrested five other officers. Earlier, a man identified as Masih was killed. Masih’s family had alleged, he had been killed in police custody and demanded an inquiry into his death be initiated. Punjab Government Spokesman Shahbaz Gul has said a draft regarding police reforms is almost complete and a decision on this will be taken in the next two to three weeks. Gill further said the reforms are focused on ending violence during police custody, while a watchdog will be established to prevent the torture of detained. On teh other hand, as the investigation into the death of ATM thief Salahuddin in police custody is currently underway, the provincial chief executive has removed the Rahim Yar Khan district police chief from his post in a latest move. Muhammad Umar Farooq Salamat was transferred immediately on the directives of Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar and was ordered to report to the Central Police Office (CPO) Lahore. The provincial police chief assigned the additional charge of Rahim Yar Khan DPO to SP Investigation Habib Ullah Khan. Meanwhile, the spokesman of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Gill says the DPO has been removed to ensure transparency in the inquiry of the case.
