Pre-paid cards: SC bars all cell phone network companies from charging additional taxes

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan on Monday stopped all cell phone network companies from charging consumers with additional taxes. The mobile phone users will now be receiving Rs 88.89 instead of Rs76.94 on the recharge of Rs100, getting a relief of Rs12.09. On the direction of SC, all companies have now stopped receiving operational and service charges. On April 27, the top court had reinstated taxes on cell phone cards after which the consumers were getting only Rs77.19 on a recharge of Rs100. In June, 2018, a SC bench headed by the then CJ Nisar Saqib had suspended the deduction of taxes imposed on the top-up of prepaid cards by cell phone service providers and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmeQWdZDrLA
