PTI announces support for JI candidate for Karachi mayor

KARACHI (92 News) - The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced support for Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for the slot of the Karachi mayor.

The Karachi PTI spokesman said that the PPP is kidnapping the elected members through the police.

He accused the PPP of doing pre-poll rigging. "The PPP has fled from the local bodies elections four times and now it wants to hold the polls in a haste. The PPP and the MQM do not want to accept the public mandate," he maintained.

On the other hand, Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Hafiz Naeem thanked the PTI for extending support for the mayor elections. "Now it is clear-cut that the Karachi mayor will be from the Jamaat-e-Islami," he added.

Meanwhile, the PPP is claiming of winning seats more than any party.

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon told 92 News that the PPP has required numbers for winning the mayorship. "The Karachi mayor will be from the PPP," he added.

The PPP is leading with 99 seats, while Jamaat-e-Islami and the PTI has 86 and 41 seats respectively. The PML-N has seven seats, while the JUI and the TLP have three and one seat respectively.
