Ruckus in Sindh Assembly over HIV matters in Larkana
KARACHI (92 News) – Sindh Assembly turned into fish market when the opposition members were not given permission to speak over the HIV matters in Larkana on Friday.
During the ongoing session, the government and opposition members in the assembly resorted to verbal and physical attacks on each other after the latter were not allowed to speak on recent spike in HIV positive cases in Larkana.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s parliamentary leader Haleem Adil Sheikh sought Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani’s permission to begin debate on the issue, but the latter told him to table the resolution after completion of the assembly’s proceedings.
When Sheikh Haleem protested against the speaker’s decision, saying that he had made a habit of stopping the opposition members from using the assembly’s floor, Durrani rebuked, asking him to speak politely.
This led opposition benches to lodge a protest demonstration in the provincial assembly. They chanted slogans while displaying placards against the government.
They also attempted to mount on the speaker’s rostrum after surrounding his dais, however, the treasury benches members prevented it from happening.
During the tussle, Haleem Adil Sheikh and PPP’s Mumtaz Jakhrani threw fists and punches at each other. The two sides also exchanged harsh words.
57 more HIV positive cases surface in Ratto Dero, tally rises to 400
Earlier, as many as 57 more human immunodeficiency viruses (HIV) positive cases were detected on Sunday , increasing tally to 400 including more than 300 children.
Sindh AIDS Control Program in-charge Dr Sikandar Memon has confirmed the increase in the number of patients.
On Sunday, blood screening of 57 people was conducted, including 300 children, tested positive.
Earlier, the joint investigation team (JIT) had visited the clinic of the arrested quack Muzaffar Ghangro. They had taken the material, including samples and syringes, into custody.
Doctor Muzaffar Ghangro was arrested on directive of the deputy commissioner on accusation of spreading the disease. Muzaffar Ghangro has rejected the allegation.
The joint investigation team (JIT) had collected the record about the patients. Meanwhile, three children were dead due to the disease in Larkana. SP Babr Memon said that the post-mortem of dead children can be conducted if needed.
Sources said that the affected people include 25 children. They said that the doctor, who himself was an AIDS patient, had been administering injections to the people though his syringe carrying the virus.
The report said another local doctor Imran Ali Rabbani had reported the AIDS cases. It said Imran had appraised the Sindh Health Department and head of AIDS centre about it. During the crackdown against quacks on the reports about spread of HIV in the area, the Larkana deputy commissioner had asked the doctors and staffers of a private clinic to undergo tests.
On the other hand, Muzaffar Ghangro said that there were no symptoms of AIDS in him. He alleged that the Sindh Healthcare Commission officials had registered a false case against him to save themselves.
