Rupee sheds 46 paisa against dollar in interbank trading

ISLAMABAD (APP) - Pakistani rupee on Wednesday witnessed a 46 paisa devaluation against US dollar in the interbank trading that closed at Rs 279.88 against the previous day’s closing of Rs 279.42.

According to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the buying and selling rates of the Dollar in the open market stood at Rs 280.4 and Rs 283 respectively.

The price of the Euro decreased by 87 paisa to close at Rs 296.56 against the last day’s closing of Rs 297.43. The Japanese Yen remained unchanged to close at Rs 1.86, whereas a decrease of Rs 2.54 was witnessed in the exchange rate of the British Pound, which traded at Rs 339.98 as compared to the last closing of Rs 342.52.

The exchange rates of the Emirates Dirham and the Saudi Riyal increased by 12 paisa each to close at Rs 76.19 and Rs 74.60 respectively.

Meanwhile, the 100-index of Pakistan Stock Exchange witnessed bullish trend, gaining 149.19 points, a positive change of 0.29 per cent, closing at 51,177.13 points against 51,027.94 points the previous day. A total of 427,393,948 shares valuing Rs.15.509 billion were traded during the day as compared to 321,403,857 shares valuing Rs.11.091 billion the previous day.

On the other hand, the per tola price of 24-karat gold decreased by Rs750 and was sold at Rs208,450 compared to its sale at Rs209,200 the previous day of trading. The price of 10 grams of 24-karat gold also decreased by Rs643 to Rs178,712 from Rs179,355 whereas the prices of 10 gram 22-karat gold went down to Rs163,820 from Rs164,409.

The price of per tola and ten gram silver remained constant at Rs.2,550 and Rs2,186.21 respectively. The price of gold in the international market decreased by $5 to $1,990 from $1,995, the Association reported.
