SC adjourns Nawaz Sharif’s bail plea on medical grounds till March 26
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday adjourned the bail plea of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on medical grounds till March 26.
A three-member bench led by Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa heard the plea and issued notices to the NAB.
CJP Asif Saeed Khosa remarked that Nawaz Sharif has medical history. “We will have to go through all reports,” he remarked.
Justice Yahya questioned why the detail report about the medical treatment of Nawaz Sharif had not been provided.
Several PML-N workers, including Hamza Shehbaz, Pervaiz Rasheed, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, were present in the court.
Earlier, Nawaz Sharif had filed afresh application in the SC for early hearing of his bail plea. In the application, he contended that his health has already deteriorated and the bail case should be fixed for hearing this week.
The Supreme Court had dismissed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s plea for early hearing of the bail petition, ruling that Nawaz Sharif’s bail plea will be fixed on its turn.
Nawaz Sharif, through his counsel Khawaja Haris, had requested the court to fix the bail petition on March 6.
The former premier had challenged the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) verdict on his petition seeking bail on medical grounds in the SC. Nawaz Sharif petitioned the SC against a decision by the IHC rejecting him bail in Al-Azizia corruption reference.
The former premier’s counsel Khawaja Haris earlier filed a petition in the apex court seeking that the IHC decision be declared null and void.
The former premier is currently imprisoned at Kot Lakhpat jail. He was at hospital on February 15 owing to his illness.
