ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has filed a review petition against the elections date given by the Supreme Court, stating that the SC has no power to give date for the elections.

In the review petition, the ECP contended that that the court has exceeded its limits by giving the elections date. "The articles related to the conduct of the elections should be read simultaneously. The court can only interpret the law, but cannot rewrite it," it stated.

The ECP said that the Supreme Court should rectify the mistake made in the elections date for Punjab. "The SC should review the verdict announced on April 4. The court has allowed to extend the elections date by four months in the past," it contended.

The ECP said that the government neither provided the funds nor security. "Now it is impossible to conduct the elections on May 14," it added.
