ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has said that the trade deficit increased due to the policies of the previous government.

Addressing a news conference along with Coordinator to Prime Minister on Economy and Energy Bilal Kayani in Islamabad, he said that Imran Khan's government took the highest debt in the history. “The country was close to bankruptcy due to his poor policies. We saved Pakistan from bankruptcy.

“Value of rupee is stabilizing due to decrease in imports. The rupee was under pressure due to payments in July. We are trying to give more priority to local products and increase domestic exports. Difficulties will come and we all have to face them together. We all have to pay taxes, there is no other solution.”

The finance minister said that the current increase in electricity bills was due to fuel adjustment. He demanded the Election Commission to give a decision on the foreign funding case soon, saying that if Imran Khan is truthful, then file a case on the Financial Times.

Finance Minister Miftah Ismail also announced tax exemption for shopkeepers consuming less than 150 units.
