WASHINGTON (92 News) - US State Department Spokesperson Mathew Miller has said that America will continue to focus on advancing the shared interests with new Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his government.

Responding to a query regarding US relations with the new government in Pakistan during a briefing on Monday, he said: As we have said before that we value our longstanding partnership with Pakistan and have always viewed a strong, prosperous, and democratic Pakistan as critical to US-Pakistan shared interests."

To another question as how the election of Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz will signify progress for women’s representation in Pakistani politics, Miller said: "Her selection as chief minister is a milestone in Pakistani politics. We look forward to cooperating with Pakistan more broadly on integrating women more fully into the country’s political life, in the economy, including through the US-Pakistan Women’s Council, civil society, and other decision making spaces. An inclusive Pakistan makes for a strong, prosperous country which all Pakistanis benefit from."
