Zardari denies being beneficiary of NRO

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Pakistan Peoples’ Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday has denied being a beneficiary of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO). Speaking to the journalist, Zardari said that “Islamabad is the city of conspiracies.” He also said that when the government formed then conspiracies also under come in discussions. The PPP co-chairman mentioned that today he was also facing the trial of cases which was registered by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in his tenure of the government. “PPP accepted the challenge after the Musharraf’s tenure.” Responding to a question, the former president said that never benefited from the National Reconciliation Order (NRO) and that all cases against him were reopened. Nawaz might have benefited from the deal, he said. The NRO, passed by former military ruler Pervez Musharraf in 2007, granted amnesty to politicians and other individuals by quashing various corruption and criminal cases against them so they could return to the country and engage in the democratic process. Criticised the policies of the ruling PTI-government, Zardari remarked that the need of the hour is for all parties to work together. “We implemented futuristic policies, but Nawaz Sharif didn’t like them,” he said. He also claimed that the PPP delivered in its five years of government.
