20 teams engaged in cleanliness drive in Karachi: Ali Zaidi

KARACHI (92 News) – Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi said that the cleanliness drive in Karachi is underway with full swing in the city and five big and six small drains are being cleaned. Addressing a press conference in Karachi, he said twenty teams are engaged in the campaign and in the first phase, they have lifted forty seven thousand metric ton garbage from the drainage in twenty days. The minister said that at least 12 motorcycles were found from Mehmoodabad nullah during the cleanliness drive. “People are still throwing garbage into the Nullahs which were cleaned recently during “Lets Clean Karachi’ campaign, he added. Ali Zaidi said that the workers which are cleaning the drains will get bonus. He said that several drains of Karachi have been cleaned during the last 20 days. The PTI minister said that Rs80 million were collected for cleanliness drive and out of which Rs40.5 million had been spent on the drive so far. Earlier, US Consul General in Karachi, Rob Silberstein, called on the Minister for Maritime Affairs at his office in Karachi. They discussed various issues, including ongoing situation in Kashmir. Earlier, Ali Haider Zaidisaid there are lots of opportunities in Maritime, Energy, Technology and other sectors for American business. the minister said that Pakistan’s most populous city Karachi where country generating huge revenue was badly ignored by former Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) government. Meanwhile, the minister assured that before the August 14, cleanliness drive in Karachi would be completed with the joint efforts of its citizens. He also announced to take a part in the cleanliness campaign. He urged all segment of society to play their responsible role in cleaning Karachi City. “We will launch the drive from Sunday till August 13, adding, it would be the biggest Eid gift for Karachi residents,” he maintained. He also directed municipal representatives and other relevant departments to speed up their work. On the other hand, private organizations, business organizations, the cricketers and artists also announced to play a role in the Zaidi’s cleanliness drive.
