Afghan envoy calls on COAS Gen Bajwa

RAWALPINDI (92 News) – Afghanistan Ambassador to Pakistan Shukrullah Atif Mashal called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the General Headquarters on Monday.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the matters of mutual interest and regional security particularly Afghanistan peace process came under discussion.
The visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for ongoing Afghan peace process. Afghanistan had appointed former chairman Afghanistan Cricket Board, Shukrullah Atif Mashal, as the new ambassador to Pakistan in November last year.
Mashal had also met Gen Bajwa at the GHQ on Jan 11. The COAS had welcomed the Afghan ambassador to Pakistan and expressed that his services will help optimize the mutually beneficial bilateral relations.
COAS, US commander discuss Afghan peace process
Earlier on Jan 20, a United States (US) delegation headed by General Joseph L Votel, Commander US CENTCOM, called on the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa in Rawalpindi.
The ISPR stated that geo-strategic environment, regional security and Afghanistan peace and reconciliation process were discussed.
The visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan Army’s efforts for regional peace and stability.
On the occasion, the COAS reiterated that peace in Afghanistan is vital for regional peace. “Pakistan despite constraints has contributed to all efforts for regional peace and would continue to do so,” he said.
On Jan 17, the US delegation headed by Special Representative for Afghanistan reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad, Commander Resolute Support Mission General Austin Scott Miller met COAS General Qamar Bajwa at the GHQ.
