Federal Energy Minister Awais Leghari says govt will never change IPPs agreements

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Federal Energy Minister Awais Leghari has said that the government will never change the agreements signed with the independent power producers (IPPs).

Addressing a press conference on Monday, he said that the government could not pay fines of US$900 million by ending agreement unilaterally like Riko Diq.

He said that dialogues could only be held regarding capacity payments.

Awais Leghari further said that loans were received from China at the highest interest and they had talked about its re-profiling. “A positive progress has been made to shift the Chinese power plants on local coal,” he added.
