Govt convenes parliamentary parties’ meeting for consultation on NAP
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The government has convened a parliamentary parties meeting on March 28 to hold consultation on the National Action Plan (NAP) against terrorism on Monday.
According to the details garnered, Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mehmood Qureshi has written letters to the leaders of all parliamentary parties to hold consultations over the NAP and key parliamentary matters.
The foreign minister has summoned a consultative conference of all parliamentary parties on March 28 at 4pm at the Parliament House.
“I would like to invite parliamentary leaders of all the political parties on March 28, 2019 at 4pm in the Committee Room No 2, Parliament House, to underscore our continued commitment to speedy implementation of NAP. This implementation is clearly in the long-term interest of the people of Pakistan,” he said in his letter.
“The meeting is to highlight the objectives of the NAP, which also includes not allowing the use of our soil for terrorist activities against any other country”, the letter read.
It further states that the NAP is reflective of national consensus on the issue of terrorism. It says that implementation of the plan is in the long-term interest of Pakistan.
The letter further stated that NAP was formulated in the aftermath of the Army Public School attack in December 2014. "NAP was the result of a national consensus achieved through consultations with all the political parties of the country."
The responsibility of implementation of United Nations' restrictions is also an important part of the plan, Qureshi further said in the letter.
Earlier on March 8, FM Qureshi had said, he believes that parliamentary leaders should be taken into confidence regarding the NAP on counter terrorism.
Qureshi invites opposition to offer their input on foreign policy issues
Earlier, FM Qureshi has invited the opposition to sit together with the government on foreign policy issues.
Speaking after Bilawal’s address to the NA, Qureshi responded to the PPP leader’s offer for help, saying that the government would welcome any suggestion from the opposition parties to cope with the challenges Pakistan is confronting with on foreign affairs’ front.
The minister invited Bilawal Bhutto, Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif, and other parliamentary leaders to come to the Foreign Office and the government would seek their inputs on foreign relations.
