LAHORE (92 News) - Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has been elected as the new ameer of the Jamaat-e-Islami, announced the JI Election Commission on Thursday.

According to the JI Election Commission, there are 45,000 members, including 6,000 women, and the voting turnout was 82 percent. Hafiz Naeemur Rehman was serving as Karachi JI ameer. The tenure of JI ameer Sirajul Haq will expire on April 8.

The JI spokesperson said that the JI ameer had been elected for the next five years. "According to the constitution, elections are held in the Jamaat-e-Islami at each level. The Jamaat-e-Islami does not belong to a single person or a single family, but it belongs to each member and worker," he added.

He said that Sirajul Haq, Liaquat Baloch and Hafiz Naeemur Rehman were in the race for the Jamaat-e-Islami ameer.
