RAWALPINDI (92 News) – DG ISPR Maj Gen Ahmed Sharif has said that May 9 will be remembered as a dark chapter in the history of the country.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, he said according to the NAB declaration, the PTI chairman was taken into legal custody yesterday from the Islamabad High Court.

"Soon after the arrest, organized attacks were carried out on the Pak Army properties and installations. Anti-army slogans were chanted in a very organized manner. Miscreants have exploited public sentiments to fulfill their limited and selfish objectives," he maintained.

The DG ISPR said that these same people used to never get tired of highlighting the importance of the army for the country, which is an example of their duplicity. "These miscreants are deliberately hoodwinking the people. What the everlasting enemy of the country could not do in 75 years, a group under the cover of politics and lust for power has done it," he added.

Maj Gen Ahmed Sharif said that the army showed extreme patience, tolerance and restraint during the riots. "Without caring about its reputation, the Pak Army displayed extreme patience in the wider interest of the country. Through the situation created under a planning, a nefarious conspiracy was hatched to get the army's immediate response to be used for their nefarious political objectives. Army's mature response foiled this conspiracy. We are well aware that behind this conspiracy are the orders and pre-panning of some miscreant leadership," he declared.

He said that the facilitators, planners and political rioters involved in these activities have been identified and strict action will be taken against them as per law.

"All these miscreants will now be responsible for the consequences. A severe response will be given to any further attack on the army, including all law-enforcement agencies, military and state installations as well as properties. The group that wants to push Pakistan into a civil war and has repeatedly and openly expressed it will be held responsible for it. No one can be allowed to incite the people and take the law into his hands," he concluded.
