Punjab CM, Iranian consul general agree to promote cultural & youth exchanges

LAHORE (92 News) - Iranian Consul General Mehran Mowahed Far called on Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to congratulate her on assuming the office on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the Punjab chief minister said that she wanted to take Pak-Iran bilateral relations to a higher level, adding that she desires to increase cooperation between the two countries.

The promotion of bilateral relations and the possibility of increasing cooperation and trade volume between the two countries were discussed in the meeting. Both leaders agreed on the promotion of cultural and youth exchanges between the two countries. A decision was taken to take immediate steps in this regard.

The Punjab CM said: ”As a goodwill gesture, lights will be lit in the Badshahi Mosque on March 20 on the occasion of Nowruz. Pakistan and Iran are culturally and religiously connected. The historical relationship between the people of Pakistan and Iran spans over centuries.”

She said that she wanted to increase mutual agricultural  and trade with Iran.

Speaking on the occasion, the Iranian consul general said, "Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's vision of deepening Pak-Iran relations is commendable. The future of relations with Pakistan is bright.” He expressed good wishes for the people and the Punjab government.
