Punjab govt withdraws Rs14 per unit subsidy to Islamabad power consumers

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The Punjab government on Wednesday succumbed to another demand of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as it announced withdrawing the Rs14 per unit subsidy to electricity consumers in Islamabad.

As per the notification issued by the Islamabad Electricity Supply Company (IESCO), the government’s decision will deprive the Islamabad electricity consumers of the Rs14 per unit subsidy for the month of September.

The Islamabad power consumers will now receive their electricity bills on the new increased prices which the federal government notified with effect from July 1 to comply with an IMF condition.

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari also confirmed to the media that the subsidy given on electricity bills had been withdrawn from the Islamabad power consumers.

"As per telephonic discussion dated 03-09-2024, instructions regarding discontinuation of CM Punjab Relief at Rs14 per unit for domestic single-phase consumers having consumption range from 201 to 500 units is being discontinued for Islamabad Capital Territory for the billing month of September 2024," reads the notification.

It is to be noted here that the subsidy on the electricity bills will continue for the consumers of Punjab till September 30.
