ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The Supreme Court on Friday allowed PTI president Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi to contest the elections from PP-32 Gujrat.

The court ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to include his name in the ballot papers and allot him an election symbol. He has withdrawn from the National Assembly seats.

Hearing the petition, Justice Athar Minallah remarked that the impression should not be like as if it was being done with the only one party. "Voters should not be deprived of the right to vote and easiness should be created for them," he observed.

Earlier, Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi had filed a petition in the Supreme Court to contest the general elections. In the petition, he appealed to the SC to nullify the judgment of the Lahore High Court (LHC) issued on January 13.

Meanwhile, the SC also allowed Shaukat Basra and Sanam Javed to contest the elections. It also allowed Tahir Sadiq, an independent candidate from NA 49 Attock, to contest the elections. It also allowed Umar Aslam, an independent candidate, to contest the election from NA-87 Khushab.

However, the court rejected the appeal of independent candidate Muhammad Arif Abbasi to contest the elections.
