ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and four High Court bar associations have appealed to Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa to hold investigations into a letter sent by six judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) regarding interference in the judicial matters.

In a statement on Wednesday, the SCBA said that an action should be taken for interfering in the private life of the judges and the judiciary. "The SCBA believes in independence of the judiciary. No action against freedom of the judiciary will be tolerated," it added.

Meanwhile, Islamabad, Lahore, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh high court bar associations and lawyer bodies have expressed their concern over the situation.

They demanded that the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) should hold an inquiry into the matter. "Why did it happen that the judges had to write the letter jointly?"

They said that the constitution is being betrayed by not starting action over the matter.

On the other hand, a petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking open court investigations into a letter sent by six judges of the Islamabad High Court regarding interference in the judicial matter.

The petition filed by Mian Dawood prayed for holding an inquiry by forming an authorized commission for conducting an inquiry into the matter. He contended that the judges letter amounts to scandalizing the judiciary. "The Supreme Judicial Council is not an institution to hold investigations into such disputes," he maintained.

The petitioner contended that the judges had not clearly given a proof and a reference of a single case other than the PTI case.
