Maulana Fazl holds key to Constitutional Amendment Bill?

ISLAMABAD (92News) - Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has occupied the central spot on the political stage of the country as both the ruling coalition and the opposition are trying to woo him to secure his support in the Parliament.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman held several important meetings with both the ruling coalition as well as the opposition.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met the JUI chief to seek his support for the constitutional amendment, after which the latter sought a draft of the amendment bill to consult the party leaders before taking any decision.

Apart from this, Maulana Fazl also met Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Other PPP and JUI leaders were also present in the meeting.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also met Maulana Fazl. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and JUI leader Asad Mehmood were present in the meeting.

Moreover, a delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also held a meeting with Maulana at his residence, in which Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Law Minister Nazeer Tarar, and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar were present.

Talking about Maulana Fazlur Rehman's high-level talks, a JUI leader said that some proposals had come from the government, which would be discussed with the party leaders.

"All parties, including PTI, should be taken into confidence regarding the constitutional amendment," he said, adding that the party would consider the proposals it liked.

Moreover, Maulana Fazlur Rahman also met a PTI delegation, which included Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan, Senator Shibli Faraz, and former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser.

However, the PTI delegation left without speaking to the media after meeting the JUI chief.
